Painting just down from St Ives on The National Trust's Zennor Head looking straight due West, in that season where the light seems to crystallise in the cold and in its heaviness rolls into a frostier complex turquoise in a cloudless sky. You can see and feel the history of the land and that inspiration that drew on the power of this dance between sea and light of the St Ives School. Hepworth, Nicholson, Lanyon, Leach, Barns-Graham, Heron... taking time to take a walk to this magnificent headland looking out to then Gurnard's Head, here painted. Like a prism throwing its colourful beams out, this then the job of the refracting, reflective sea. The cold creeping into bones, crunching the crisp heather underfoot, and warmed finally at the day's end at The Tinner's Arms by the fire with painted hands. Zennor. Chasing Cornish Light.
