The sea I feel, expresses so much. I painted this with a storm brewing overhead, the sea is often one of the first warning signs.
I was working with the idea here that red, as well as a danger signifier is also linked to ideas of security and survival. This for me was quite an emotive piece, and I returned, not only blue from the cold, but also as if I had given everything. 'New Year's Day, giving over to the storm.'
